About the Farm

Nakai ORGANIC TEA GARDEN

Hidden in the misty hills of Wazuka, the Nakai family has been growing tea for over 350 years. In 1986, sixth-generation tea master Michio Nakai stopped using pesticides after the chemicals began affecting his health, long before organic farming was common in Japan.

Despite difficult early years including crop losses, criticism, and having to start from zero, he stayed committed to producing tea that is safe, clean, and environmentally responsible. Today, his son, Toshitaka Nakai, continues the family’s mission. Nakai was the first tea farm in Japan certified under JAS organic standards, and their teas now also meet USDA and EU organic certifications.

We’re proud to source our matcha from Nakai, a producer who puts health, taste, and the environment first.
